What If I’m Just Big Boned?

Greetings friends!

I never considered myself to be obese until the Mayo Clinic told me I was.  Here’s what they say about it:

“Obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat.  Doctors often use a formula based on your height and weight — called the body mass index (BMI) — to determine if you are obese. Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese. Extreme obesity, also called severe obesity or morbid obesity, occurs when you have a BMI of 40 or more. With morbid obesity, you are especially likely to have serious health problems. Today, about one in three American adults is considered to be obese, but obesity is also becoming an increasing health problem globally. The good news is that even modest weight loss can improve or prevent the health problems associated with obesity.”

BMI is inaccurate right if you have some muscle? When I was fat my parents would always say I’m ‘stocky’, even now, I’m ‘stocky’. I asked them what they meant by that, and they said “You’re not thin anymore like you were as a child, you’re stocky. You’ve grown up.” iI never liked the term stocky, I always felt it was another name for fat.

After I lost aobut 60-70 lbs,and lifting regularly, I remember for the first time seeing some friends who I hadn’t seen since I was obese. One of them told me the same thing, “You look big.”. The other person asked, “What do you mean by that?” “You look built.”

My mom is Obese, and I really feel for her, I really do. She’s 5’2” and we’re about the same weight. She’s trying her best but she keeps making cookies….she says she just wants one but I don’t think she realizes when she makes those it hurts the whole family…if you want a cookie go to the store and get one cookie..you know? Don’t have to make 3 dozen of them.

I feel we have alot in common doug. Keep up the blog, good work.
